"My passion for acupuncture began almost 20 years ago while living and traveling in China and South Korea. I got treatment myself - first with herbs - then with acupuncture. My health improved, and my interest grew... I read many books on acupuncture theory, East Asian philosophy and Tai Chi Chuan and then one day stumbled, quite by accident, upon a huge acupuncture and herbal medicine conference while vacationing in Seoul. I was fascinated by the needles, the various devices, the variety of herbal products! I talked to many great doctors that day, some of whom told me "If you are this interested in our field, you should definitely study formally!"
Fast forward to the present: I have been helping people get relief from seemingly insurmountable pain and helping discouraged families get pregnant for almost 15 years. I absolutely love what I do and am always adding new skills, new perspective, and new credentials to my wheel house. That said, I'm continually amazed by the simple power of the very basic principle of balancing Yin vs. Yang, Internal vs. External, Cool vs. Warm, Empty vs. Replete that I learned very early in my formal training!
I love helping patients see their symptoms and diagnosed diseases from the truly holistic perspective of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). This broad, integrative view can be lacking in our current health care system. The glut of information, products, and options in the modern healthcare and wellness marketplace is also overwhelming. A solid TCM diagnosis and care plan can help patients make sense of it all.
I love giving acupuncture treatments. I have always been a "sensitive" person, it's just the way I'm wired. My years of training in Qigong and taichi add another level and I really enjoy finding just the right point with just the right needling method to get a tight muscle to release, or to get a wave of endorphins surging through my patient's nervous system, to see someone in pain relax completely and instantly!
I treat and welcome patients of all ages from all walks of life. People who love getting acupuncture and make it a regular feature of their self-care regimen, people who thought they'd never let someone even come near them with a needle, and people who just need to get relief and get on with their lives. Homemakers, veterans, athletes, kids, your grandparents. As I said before, the core principles of TCM are so powerful, we really can help anyone get relief.
To get my patients the relief, relaxation, and optimal state of health they seek I have many tools and skills to choose from: acupuncture, e-stim acupuncture (gentle electrical pulses), cupping, tui na (manual massage and joint mobilization), moxibustion, internal and external use herbs.
I graduated from American College of TCM in 2008. I'm licensed and certified by the NC Acupuncture Licensing Board and the National Certification Commision for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. I've worked in a variety of clinical settings and have been in private practice in Cary, NC for 3 years. I continue to pursue professional development: In 2017 I became a Fellow of the American Board of Reproductive Medicine, and in 2019 earned a certification in Neuro-meridian Integrative Acupuncture.
When not in the clinic working my magic on aching backs, sluggish ovaries, weak quads, and angry bowels I enjoy gardening, knitting (yes, I really love needles), improvisational cooking, baking but only with recipes, yoga, barre, qigong, hiking, and taking my two sons (6 and 10) on adventures.
